On behalf of everyone in the Leadership Team, I’d like to welcome you all back to Sandringham College for what is sure to be an exciting and rewarding Term 2.
The second term of every year is always a wonderful time as we start to welcome some of the parents and students who’ll be joining us here early in 2017. Our Campus and Assistant Principals have been busy since late January showing parents and prospective students around both campuses of our great school, and this will continue leading up to the College Open Night at Bluff Road on Wednesday April 27th. Also for prospective Year 7s, there are two SEAL exam dates coming up this month, so if you are interested in our Select Entry program, please ensure you have those dates firmly in your diary
Our Year 8s have a packed term ahead with the Medieval Day keeping everyone busy, as well as the annual camp, albeit with less swords and armour, which is from Monday 9th – Wednesday 11th May. We will also see the High Resolves Leadership Induction for Year 8s later this term.
Our senior students will also be fully occupied as they prepare for a number of significant events, including one of the highlights of the year, the Senior Formal on Friday June 17th.
As you would expect, there’s also some important academic considerations with the Years 10-12 Semester One exams and the General Achievement Test (GAT) examination. Our Years 7 and 9 students will have their NAPLAN assessments this term. The Year 9s will also complete their Extended Research Project based on the theme of ‘Myself, My World’. This is a thorough independent investigation project spanning the course of this term, as part of our Horizons program.
Outside the classroom, we will host our International Soiree on May 10th, and our Years 7-10 Music Soiree three weeks later. The Dance Academy Winter Showcase is always a wonderful night and will be held this year on Wednesday June 15th – please do try to make it if you can. We will also be taking part in the Kingston Division Sports and Round Robin Days and the inter-schools cross-country run. More details on all those events closer to the time.
Finally, the Out and Back Tour, our Sandringham College Music Tour, will run in the last week of term from June 20th to 24th. This terrific journey sees the students travel interstate to perform in four different venues on four consecutive evenings. The show is entirely run by students and includes performers, technical production and media. It has been running very successfully since 2007, making this year number 10! I am sure this will be another great trip for the students, teachers and the College as a whole.
Once again, welcome back to everyone in our College community, and I look forward to sharing in many wonderful moments with our students, teachers, parents and staff over the next two months or so before the winter break.
Suzanne Reinhardt, College Principal
