"Sit Down, Shut up and Turn to Page 22" takes a look back over the past 180 years of education in the state of Victoria. Satirizing the teachers and students alike, the play resurrected all the well-known stereotypes to have emerged in schools over the past century: from jock to nerd, goth to class clown, as well as the tyrannical school co-ordinator. First performed in the late 80's, Sandringham College Theatre class brought the play to life in a refreshingly modern context, leading us to examine the ever-changing education system, spotting its flaws and foibles, as well as its triumphs. Laughing all the while, we contemplated the struggle between future and past through a plethora of issues, such as discipline, student rebellion and sex education. All throughout, we found ourselves asking; has progress been made, or are students still being ordered to 'sit down, shut up and turn to page twenty-two?'
