Curriculum

In Years 7 and 8 Sandringham 7-10 Campus provides each student with a comprehensive and balanced education. Each student experiences a program based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.

During the week, each student will be involved in the study of:

  • English
  • Humanities (History/Geography/Economics)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • LOTE (French or Indonesian)
  • Pastoral Care
  • Physical Education
  • Sport (Year 8)

In addition, over the two year period the following semester length subjects will be studied for either one or two semesters:

  • The Arts (Art/Drama/Music/Visual Communication & Design)
  • Technology (Ceramics/Food/Information Technology/Textiles/Wood)

At Year 9, students experience a combination of compulsory and elective units. Each unit is a semester's work (two terms) and students are required to study units from all of the Curriculum Domains, except LOTE (Languages Other Than English). Within this, students have the opportunity to choose two elective units each semester. These are selected from across the Domains. Students must undertake at least one unit from the Arts and one unit from Technology during the year.

That is, each week a student's program will consist of:

English 4 periods
Mathematics 4 periods
Science 3 periods
Health and PE 3 periods
Humanities: Geography and History 3 periods
Electives 1 x 3 period units
1 x 4 period unit
3C9 6 periods

Each student's program will be developed after consultation with Parents, Teachers and Coordinators.

At Year 10, students experience a combination of compulsory and elective units. Each unit is a semester's work (two terms) and students are required to study units from all of the Curriculum Domains, except LOTE (Languages Other Than English). Within this, students have the opportunity to choose seven electives over the year. These are selected from across the Domains, although students must undertake at least one unit from the Arts and one unit from Technology during the year. These electives include VCE and VCE/VET Studies.

A student program will consist of:

English 5 periods
Mathematics 5 periods
Science 3 periods
Health and PE 3 periods
Humanities: Geography & History 4 periods
Electives 2 x 3 periods
1 x 4 periods
