Senior Music Tour

Sandringham College Music Tour: 20th to 24th June 2016

During the last week of Term 2 the Senior Music Department embarked on the 10th anniversary of the annual Music Tour. This year a combination of Year 12 Bands, Year 12 Soloists, our college Funk/Soul Band Deja Groove, VET Technical Production students (setting up & operating the PA system) & Media students (Rock-umentary & Blog) hit the road for a week to share out music with various different communities. The Music Tour’s purpose is to show our students how they can use their passion and talent for music to make a difference for those who don’t get the opportunity to experience live music. The performances on tour encompassed schools and communities of people with disabilities and remote primary school children, some of whom had never heard or seen live music before. It had been a very powerful experience for our students in the past and once again this tour didn’t disappoint.sdfrgthnjm

This group of students were some of the best that we have ever taken away. Not only were the performances full of energy, engaging and really powerful for the audiences, but the students bonded together to create a huge musical family which made the experience that much more enjoyable.

Our first stop was to perform at Bailey House in Brighton before heading out Warrnambool. The second day we performed for Koroit & District Primary School before heading towards Mount Gambier in South Australia. We performed for the Gordon Education Institute before heading back into Victoria towards Horsham. We performed on day four for Murtoa College (a school that has 350 students years Prep to 12) before heading north to set up camp in Echuca. The final day saw two performances, one at Echuca South Primary School and a final in our college theatre upon our return back to Sandringham. Overall we travelled approximately 2000km, played Mini Golf, went to the movies, played 10 pin bowling, played Tavern Trivia and performed 6 shows in 5 days for a wide variety of audiences. We also changed quite a few lives along the way.fhgjklhjgf

The music tour is a highlight on the Music Departments calendar and we are very excited to have celebrated our 10th anniversary. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the future with our next batch of senior students.
